Yarrow is a creeping perennial plant growing to 1 meter, with white flower heads and finely divided leaves
Yarrow has a long history as wound healer. It was used to staunch war wounds. It has been taken as a strengthening bitter tonic. It helps recovery from colds and flu and is beneficial for hay fever. It is also helpful for menstrual problem and circulatory problems
Habitat and Cultivation
Yarrow is native to Europe and western Asia, but also can be found in north africa and north america, yarrow can be found growing wild in temperature regions throughout the world, the herb spreads via its roots, and the aerial parts are picked in summer when in flower

Aerial parts fresh or dried; contain flavonoids which are thought to give yarrow its antispasmodic properties

Traditional and Current Uses
Healing Wounds; Achilles reputedly used yarrow to heal wounds,hence its name. it has been used for this purpose for centuries, traditional wound ointments was made from yarrow
Gynecological Use; Yarrow helps regulate the menstrual cycle, reduces heavy bleeding and eases menstrual pain
Other Uses; Combines with other herbs it helps in colds and flu . Its bitter tonic properties make it useful for weak digestion and colic. It also helps in hay fever, lowers high blood pressure, improves venous circulation, and tones varicose veins
Key Preparations and Their Uses
Caution: Extended use of this plant may cause allergic skin rashes or lead to photo sensitivity in some people. Use the essential oil only under professional supervision. do not take during pregnancy.
Remedy for colds; mix equal parts of yarrow, peppermint, and elderflower. infuse 1 tsp with a cup of freshly boiled water for 10 minutes, take 3 times daily.
Essential oil; extracted from the flowers is used by herbalists to treat congestion.
Tincture; for indigestion. take 20 drops 3 times a day
Poultice; apply to scrapes, cuts, and bruises.
Interactions
Major Interaction (Do not take this combination);
(Anticoagulant / Antiplatelet drugs) interacts with YARROW
Large amounts of yarrow might slow blood clotting. Taking yarrow along with medications that also slow clotting might increase the chances of bruising and bleeding.
Moderate Interaction (Be cautious with this combination);
Lithium; Yarrow might have a diuretic effect. Taking yarrow might decrease lithium elimination and result in serious side effects
Sedative medications; yarrow can enhance the sedative effects of other herbs (e.g. valerian, kava,German chamomile, hops) & sedative drugs

نبات عشبى معمر يصل طوله لمتر فى بعض الاحيان, يتميز بأوراقه المتعددة و بأزهاره البيضاء الكثيرة, للنبات تاريخ معهود في المساعدة في إيقاف النزيف, وعلاج الجروح خلال المعارك الحربية. كما تم استخدامه كمنشط ومقوى للجهاز الهضمى.
تظهر فوائده العلاجية فى محاربة البرد و الانفلوانزا و حمى القش, وفى اضطرابات الدورة الدموية و مشاكل الطمث.
:المنشأ و الانتشار
تعد اوروبا و غرب اسيا الموطن الاصلى لنبات الأخلية,ولكنه يتواجد ايضا فى شمال افريقيا و قارة امريكا الشمالية.
يتم حصد الاجزاء العلوية المزهرة للنبات فى فصل الصيف للاستخدامات الطبية المختلفة

تستخدم الاجزاء العلوية للنبات سواء الطازجة او المجففة لأحتوائها على الفلافونويدات التى تعطى للنبات خصائصه المضادة للتقلص.

الفلافونويدات تعتبر مسئولة عن الخصاص المضادة للتقلصات فى الأخلية-
الاستخدام التاريخى: تزعم الاساطير ان “أخيل” البطل الاغريقى كان يحمل هذا النبات فى اثناء المعارك لمداواة جراح جنوده, ومن هنا اشتق النبات اسمه “الاخيلية”
و يوجد نوع من المراهم مصنوع من النبات لعلاج الجروح.
الاستخدامات الحالية:
يستخدم فى تنظيم الطمث و تقليل الالام المصاحبة و غزارة الطمث الحاصل. يتم مزج الأخلية مع اعشاب أخرى لعلاج البرد و الانفلونزا. و لخصائصه المنشطة يستخدم فى تنشيط الجهاز الهضمى و معالجة التقلصات. ويستخدم لخفض الضغط المرتفع و علاج اضطرابات الدورة الدموية و علاج .الدوالى
المستحضرات المصنعة و استخداماتها:
تحذير: الاستخدام المطول للنبات من الممكن ان يؤدى الى الحساسية الجلدية والطفح وفى بعض الاحيان يؤدى الى حساسية للضوء. يتم استخدام المستحضرات الزيتية للنبات تحت اشراف متخصصين . ولا يجب استخدام اى من المستحضرات أثناء فترة الحمل.
علاج البرد:
يتم مزج نسب متساوية من نباتات الأخلية, النعناع. و البلسان, ثم نقع معلقة من خليط الاعشاب فى كوب من الماء المغلى حديثا لمدة عشر دقائق. يتم استخدام هذا الشراب ثلاث مرات يوميا.
الزيوت الاساسيةتستخلص من الأزهار و تستخدم بواسطة المتخصصين لمعالجة الاحتقان
مستحضر كحولى للنبات:يستخدم فى علاج عسر الهضم.عشرون نقطة ثلاث مرات يوميا.

تفاعلات خطيرة (لايجب استخدامها سويا
مضادات التخثر و أدوية السيولة: جرعات الأخلية الكبرى تقلل من تجلط الدم عند استخدامها مع مضادات تخثر اخرى قد تزيد احتمالات النزيف و الاصابة بكدمات.
تفاعلات متوسطة (يجب الحذر عن الاستخدام
الليثيوم:للأخلية تأثير مدر للبول, قد تقلل من التخلص من الليثيوم من الجسم و زيادة مستوياته فى الدم مما يضاعف من أثاره الجانبية.
الأدوية المهدئة: قد يزيد نبات الأخلية من التأثير المهدئ لبعض الاعشاب المهدئة او العقاقير
